Here is a UC Berkeley study that describes the energy-savings produced by computer applications with dark backgrounds and white lettering, rather than the typical light background and dark lettering. Consequently, Blackle.com offers such a version of google and has saved over 700,000 Watts-hours. This site really must offer that mode of operation.
I imagine a toggle ("energy-saving/traditional") users can set in their preferences.
The obvious implication is that this site should practice what it preaches.
