In an article published in the Marlton Telegram in August, 2008, Marlton Mayor Randy Brown and Township Officials are searching out new ways to improve upon recycling rates and increase energy efficiency in municipal buildings.
He is also looking into solar and wind power with the assistance of Rutgers University. There are several hundred acres where these could be installed. If this is feasible, he will present the findings to the Council. ( We need updates on this)!
DPW Superintendent Bill Cromie said a new recycling progarm was put into place in 2007. About 1,000 residents were given containers for just paper. It was such a success with landfill tonnage down resulting in lower landfill fees for the township. It will be expanded to an additional 3,000 homes soon. (We need an update on this)! With the new containers it is expected to result in a 5% decrease in landfill fees which will save the township $65,000 a year.
If any other communities have ideas that will help Evesham Township, Marlton, please let us know. I will pass the ideas along to the Mayor. I am also going to request an update on this article. Thanks!
