Stop the Bush/McCain Oil Disaster

DEAR FELLOW TEXANS,

Next time you go to the beach with your family, do you want to see a mammoth oil rig only three miles off the coast?

There's been a moratorium on offshore oil drilling since 1981, but if President Bush has his way, there won't be for long. Last month, Senator John McCain reversed his previous position and called for lifting the moratorium that has protected our shores for the last 27 years. Days later, President Bush hopped on the bandwagon, demanding that Congress reverse this time-tested policy. Such action would be a disaster for the environment, a boon for the oil companies, and won't have any effect whatsoever on gas prices.

Let's tell our governor to speak out against this reckless proposal. We can't stand by while Bush and McCain try to sell out our beaches so big oil can profit.

Kari, loved the picture of you and your kid...cute kid. Where do I start, I love your passion, and while my grey hair and age, I'm sure would cause you to see a lack of passion in me, the epitome of "the old way" which you so despise, you are really no different than I. The passion you feel will drive you to the right conclusions as it did me, BUT, it takes hard work and effort to find the complete truth. I once sat in demonstrations asking for pollution controls too. Our problems were the smell back in the late 60's. I now know the smell to be the result of Sulfur, but back then, we just didn't like the smell, and some had noticed how the plants didn't grow as well, and that the cars were corroding faster (Sulfuric Acid). We fought and won... We got the sulfur controlled. After Engineering school, these new technilogies were instituted by those of my generation who had the capacity to institute them. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of the executives sitting in a large house, Oh I could have been, but I never liked the flavor of the ass kissing required. No, I prefered to know the technology and push for improvements using knowledge and hard work to make available the benefits of life by those best techniques. The last job I had working towards those goals had me sitting behind a desk filling out paperwork under threat of a personal $40Kday fine if I didn't follow a federal rule book as thick as a Bible. I actually found myself in the position one day of deciding whether or not to knowingly break that law OR produce higher emmissions. I broke the law and wrote up a 10 page explanation justifying my actions. I then filed me monthly report, quit and took another job. Our system is SO screwd up, it took them 5 years before anyone read it (I wasn't fined the $1.2 million) BUT I was threatened to never do it again (by people who didn't even understand the technology). This is getting pretty long for a Blackberry, so let me summerize for now. You CAN make changes with the political mood today that you will have to pay for throughout the remainder of your (and your sons) life. You have the capacity to destroy the industrial infrastructure of this country. Change? Sure, but take it no faster than YOU know how to fix. I've seen California panic when they turned on their power switches and nothing happened. I don't want to see the tears of a mother who can't drive a child to the doctors and who wonders why or when the ambulance quit running. In the long run you will be left living in the world you create. ME? I'm getting tired of fighting it. I'll write more later (if you wish)...my thumbs are hurting on this Blackberry. Oil billionaire Pickens puts his money on Wind Power

So far this looks like really great plan. Here's an old guy whose grey hair and age has done nothing to slow his passion. Mr. Pickens surely doesn't want to destroy the industrial infrastructure of this country. He is one of those priviledged and knowledgable enough to actually be able to enhance our infrastructure. Wind power is the power of the future. This article is worth a read. I for one would much rather see wind turbines off the coast of Texas than oil rigs. Go Pampa! Go Galveston! Lead the way! Ok.. I'm done or I'll start typing stuff straight from the article. Please copy and paste the link above to find out how T. Boone Pickens plans to reduce our country's dependency on foreign oil by more than one 3rd w/out drilling in Alaska or opening up the coasts.

The link above is to the CNN News story titled "Bush to Lift Executive Ban on Offshore Oil Drilling". We knew it was coming, but I didn't think it would happen this quickly. It's still against Federal Law! Please read the article for more info.
